Providing homes for those with dementia

07/06/2017

One in five people over 80 and one in 20 people over 65 have dementia.

We are a dementia-friendly organisation and we are proud of Llys Jasmine extra care scheme, based in Mold, Flintshire, which provides 15 apartments specifically for those who have dementia.

This provision of homes for a higher level of care was carefully considered with the help of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The 15 apartments are set around dedicated amenity areas and a central courtyard with safe walkways so that those with dementia are not distressed at reaching undefined spaces. Curved corridor walls assist in continuous line of sight.  In addition the layout of the activity and dining areas enable breakout areas to provide discreet areas ensuring a less stressful environment for the more vulnerable residents.

The 24 hour on-site care and support and state-of-the-art facilities and excellent support service have already made a difference to residents who have settled into their homes, enjoying a new lease of independence. It has also given relatives reassurance their loved ones are cared for in the best way.
The apartments are ideal for someone who:
  • has been recently diagnosed with a memory impairment and is linked in to the Memory Service
  • is independent enough to create friendships and be part of the wider community
  • lives in Flintshire
  • has not been assessed as needing nursing care.
