Staying safe in your community
We take a look at how you can receive crime news for your local area, plus what you can do to help the fight against hate crime.
Community news alerts
Did you know you can sign up to receive free alerts about crime prevention and engagement events in your area led by your neighbourhood police team?
All three police forces in Wales run a community alert service which allows you to sign up to receive notifications via email or text message about crime and general policing in your area.
They also provide an opportunity for you to feedback to the police about the issues which matter to you most in your local community.
You will need to provide your name, surname, postcode and an email address to sign up.
Keep Safe Cymru
Keep Safe Cymru is a joint project designed to make people more aware of their personal safety, to encourage reporting of crime (especially hate crime) and to seek help if they need it.
It’s a project between Mencap Cymru & South Wales Police that allows people with a learning disability or mental health or communication need to share information about how they communicate with the police, as well as having access to a dedicated phone line should they need to contact them.
Once a person registers their disability with the police, they’re given a Keep Safe Cymru card.
If a card holder needs assistance, if they are lost, a victim of crime or in any situation that means they need some extra support, they can use the card to access help. The card will hold basic information about how they prefer to be communicated with, any health issues and any emergency contacts such as parents or carer.
People who register for a Keep Safe Cymru card are given access to the Police Disability Line, a dedicated non-emergency telephone number for people with a disability to use to contact South Wales Police.
