Fun days for Cardigan children

Slime making, giant bubbles and litter picking were among the activities enjoyed by children at a Cardigan estate after three organisations teamed up to put on a series of summer events.

Wales & West Housing in partnership with the Cardigan Neighbourhood Policing Team and Jigso Children’s Centre held a Summer of Fun activity programme which brought new neighbours together at Golwg y Castell.

Rhiannon Ling, Community Development Officer at Wales & West Housing, said “It was nice to be out and about again doing what we all love, talking to residents and making a difference in communities.

“It was an opportunity to meet new residents who had moved onto the estate and also a chance for them to meet each other. The last year has been a difficult period for everyone so it was nice to see people mixing again safely and enjoying the fun sessions.”

“The staff at Jig-So were delighted to deliver a number of fun sessions to the children and their families on the Golwg y Castell estate during the summer holidays,” said Linda Grace, Trustee of Jig-So Children’s Centre.

“We thank the families for their appreciative feedback. It also gave us the opportunity to continue our valuable partnership working with Wales & West Housing and the community Policing Team.”

At one event, the Cardigan Neighbourhood Policing team brought their mobile station and children enjoyed having their fingerprints taken and talking to the police about community safety.

A spokesperson for the team said: “We are committed to addressing any policing concerns which affect our communities’ lives and this was a great opportunity for us to meet some of our local residents.

“We enjoyed getting to know the residents and it was nice for them to put a face to the name of their local neighbourhood officers.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed the activities, some of whom have now decided to become police officers when they’re older which is hugely rewarding.

“It was a huge success and positive feedback was received from all who attended and appreciated the police presence.”
