Wales & West Housing sponsors Merthyr Town Football Club’s Mini Football Tournament

Hundreds of young footballers will get the chance to follow in the footsteps of famous Welsh footballers with the support of Wales & West Housing.

The Welsh housing provider has sponsored Merthyr Town Football Club’s annual Mini Football Tournament, which makes a welcome return to the club’s stadium on May 21 and 22.

The festival attracts hundreds of young footballers aged from 6 to 11 playing for 130 teams throughout south Wales. The sponsorship will be used to provide medals to be presented to all the children taking part and help with the costs of organising the event.

Wales & West Housing provided the sponsorship as part of its Making a Difference fund, which works with its suppliers and contractors to give back to the local communities by supporting sports and community groups and local projects.

“The funding from Wales & West Housing means that Merthyr Town Football Club can provide a safe and enjoyable day for hundreds of children and their families. The children have the opportunity to compete on a new synthetic football pitch in a traditional football stadium that has seen many famous footballers appear over the years, including the great John Charles.”

“To provide the appropriate environment for such a large number of children and their families would be difficult without the support from Wales & West Housing. Without that support the event would needed to have considerably reduced the number of young people taking part.”
